France has tracked down the IP address of the computer used by the alleged thief of Michael Schumacher’s medical records, prosecutors said on Tuesday, locating it in the Swiss helicopter firm that transported the injured Formula One champion.
A doctors’ briefing on the motor-racing star’s treatment after he suffered a devastating ski accident in December was stolen and offered for sale for 50,000 euros (USD 68,000) last month after he was transferred from hospital in the French city of Grenoble to a unit in Switzerland.
French police opened a criminal probe into the theft of the document, which prosecutors said consists of several dozen pages that summarise the seven-time world champion’s treatment in Grenoble.
A Zurich-based helicopter company, Rega, admitted on Tuesday that it had transported Schumacher, 45, to a clinic in Lausanne after he emerged from a coma, but claimed that it had ‘no knowledge of the investigation and had not been contacted by the authorities’.
The firm -- the main operator of air ambulances in Switzerland -- admitted that it had received a medical report on the star from his doctors in Grenoble before the flight but believed ‘patient confidentiality had been preserved’.
Schumi slowly progressing: Wife
Corinna, wife of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, said that her husband’s health is making slow but good progress. In her first public appearance since the skiing accident that left her husband in an induced coma last December, Corinna said that Michael’s condition is slowly getting better, reports Efe. Corinna was smiling and joking while handing out chocolates at a riding event in her native Switzerland.
