Four NDMC initiatives bag Skoch Awards

Four civic initiatives of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have been awarded with Skoch Award for Excellence 2014. The jury had selected the six projects of NDMC as amongst the best projects in the country out of which four were conferred Skoch Order-of-merit during the 37th Skoch Summit on ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ at India Habitat Centre.
The four projects which were conferred the awards are 24x7 call centre, Nomadic Haat, Wifi City and Urja Project. The other two projects selected by the jury at initial stage are — NDMC Women Uday, and Open Gym and Beautification of Shankar Market. The 24x7 call center is a state of art Call Centre-cum-Control Room opened at NDMC Palika Kendra for the service of residents of the area.
This is a citizen friendly and able to receive and redress all type of complaints. The City Wi-Fi is wi-fi facility in Khan Market and Connaught Place. NDMC has decided to start the free wireless internet service in its most expensive and upscale zone.
The Urja project is a unit to help under privileged women in New Delhi area. The 30 women inducted have started a tiffin system for NDMC staff. They also role out products of daily needs such as papad, pickle and masala. The Nomadic Haat has been established at subway Hanuman Mandir and Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place. The mission of the Haat is to empower, address and engage Tribal and Nomadic Communities of Banjaras, Kalbeliyas, Bawariya, Bhopa, Jogis, Kalandars, Gadiya Lohars and Raibari in providing them with alternative livelihood.
