Four more people were arrested in connection with the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal, police said on Wednesday.
‘Nitin Sharma, Monu Sharma alias Vinod Sharma and Vicky Chaudhary were arrested on Tuesday night by the Special Cell of Delhi police,’ said a police official.
He added that they have also arrested Abhishek
Shukla, a friend of Rajasthan Royals cricketer S Sreesanth, who allegedly cleaned up the cricketer’s hotel room soon after his arrest and had been called by Delhi police for questioning.
Shukla, an event manager, revealed that he was called by Jiju Janardhan, an arrested bookie, to hide some money and belongings of the tainted cricketer after he was arrested.
Replying to queries about how Janardhan knew that Sreesanth had been arrested, the official said that Rajeev Pillai, a south Indian actor who was with Sreesanth in a car at the time of his arrest, informed Janardhan, who then called Shukla.
When asked about the roles of Nitin Sharma, Monu Sharma and Vicky, the official said that Bhupendra Singh Nagar, who had been arrested on Monday, had revealed their role in the scandal.
‘Nagar was approached by Vicky, a bouncer in a nightclub at a prominent Delhi hotel, who requested him to arrange a meeting with Chandila as he wanted to meet some cricketers,’ the official said.
Nitin and Monu are property dealers and they have their office in the name of Laxmi Associates in east Delhi’s Karkardooma area.
