Four members of family die in road accident in north-west Delhi

All the victims belonged to the same family. The accident happened while they were returning to their home in Kharkhoda, Sonepat after attending a function in Gurgaon.

A police officer informed the condition of all five but one injured persons is stable. The deceased have been identified as Sanjay (35), his wife Sangeeta (26), his son Abhishek (7) and brother-in-law Sonu (30). Sanjay was reported to be driving the car. As narrated by eye witnesses, the incident took place at around 7.15 am when the speeding Swift Dzire rammed into a roadside tree in Kanjhawla area.

Locals rushed for their rescue and helped the occupants of the car. One of the locals also called up the police control room and reported the incident. Policed reached the spot and rushed all occupants of the car to nearby hospital.

Sanjay, Sangeeta, Abhishek and Sonu were declared brought dead by the hospital authorities, while the others were admitted immediately in a critical condition. By evening, the condition of all the victims except Chetna was reported to be stable.

“Some eye-witnesses told police that the car first hit the divider on the road after losing control and then rammed into a tree. However, the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained,” said a police official.

He further said the driver could be tried for negligent driving. “They were coming from Gurgaon and reached Kanjhawala at around 7 am, which means that the driver may not have slept properly the previous night”, said the police officer.
