Delhi police have arrested four youths for abetting suicide of a 17-year-old girl in Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi. It was initially believed that the Class XII student of a MCD school was depressed due to a failed relationship. The accused have been identified as Aslam, Shaufeen, Jamali and Imran, all in their early 20s and residents of Jagdamba camp slum. ‘Ashiya was found dead at her residence in Jagdamba camp slum around 12.45 pm on Wednesday,’ a senior police officer said.
It seemed to be a case of suicide over a failed relationship as Ashiya had a tattoo on her right arm which read ‘Love You Jaan’. Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC were then carried out.
During the process of investigation, Ashiya’s family members and friends were questioned, which revealed that some locals of the slum had been stalking and harrasing Ashiya. ‘We managed to identify the youths and detained them for questioning. Sustained interrogation revealed that the victim may have possibly committed suicide after facing long-term harrasment from them,’ the official added.
