Four members of the notorious Sarwan and Kartar Mandothi gang, who used to operate in outer and southwest districts of Delhi and adjoining areas of Haryana, have been arrested by the crime branch, police said.
Acting on a tip off, police yesterday apprehended Rajesh alias Karamveer (33), Ajit Mahal alias Ravi (22), Vikas Jaila (21) and Manjeet (26).
A SUV, three sophisticated pistols of 7.65 MM, three country-made pistols and 16 live cartridges were recovered from them, they said.
During interrogation, the accused told police that they were planning to eliminate Neeraj Bawania and Raju alias Kala alias Asodia, who are their rivals. ‘Had the accused been successful in eliminating any member of Neeraj Bawania gang, it could have triggered a gang war in Delhi and NCR,’ Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
He said, ‘Specific information was received that a sharp shooter of dreaded Sarwan and Kartar gang namely Rajesh is planning to commit some big dacoity/robbery with the help of his associates. The gang was also planning to eliminate their rival gangsters.’
Police laid a trap upon learning that the gang members would be coming towards Bijwasan side from Najafgarh via Chhawla Canal in their car.
‘Sensing the presence of the police team, the driver of the car tried to flee but it was intercepted by police. The occupants of the car tried to run away while whipping out their arms, but all of them were apprehended,’ said Yadav.
