Four bank staff killed in Coimbatore building inferno

At least four women were killed and five others sustained injuries when a fire ravaged the third floor of a commercial building in Coimbatore on Thursday morning. All four were employed in the offices functioning out of Vigneswar Cresta at Lakshmi Mills Junction in the city.
Local people began rescue operations even before fire tenders arrived at the spot 45 minutes after the fire began. Eyewitnesses said two women jumped out of the third floor and were injured. ‘Four women died in the fire and are yet to be identified. It seems there was no proper fire exit in the building,’ said city police commissioner A K Viswanathan.
A chopper was also called from Sulur Airforce Station to airlift those trapped people. However, all of them were rescued with a ladder from city corporation and fire service department. Senior officials are at the spot.
A 40-year-old woman Margaret, a member of the building’s housekeeping department is said to be missing. It is yet to be ascertained if she is among those killed.
