Police arrested four people at Shyampur in Howrah in connection with the sale of a newborn. The mother of the newborn boy sold her child to a childless couple.
However, in this bid, police arrested the uncle, aunt and brother-in-law of the lady who sold her child to that couple along with the tout who had arranged the deal.
Police said the accused mother got pregnant after an illicit relationship with her brother-in-law.
However, she did not go for abortion and decided to give birth to the child despite repeated requests from her brother-in-law.
Later the brother-in-law contacted that childless couple who agreed to buy the baby for Rs 50,000. The couple gave Rs 10,000 in advance.
“We have arrested the accused mother’s uncle, aunt and brother-in-law and one tout in this case. All of them were sent to court and remanded to judicial custody,” said a police officer.
