Fortune of UP farmers will change soon: Rahul

Aiming to develop Amethi as a major agricultural hub, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that if the government could achieve that target the fortune of farmers and of the state would change very soon.

‘Mujhe maja aa jayega agar Amethi agriculture hub ban gaya’, he said after laying the foundation stone of a first mega food park here in the campus of Indo-Gulf Fertiliser in Amethi on Monday.

Talking about the bad financial condition of farmers in UP, Gandhi said the food park will change the future of the farmers of the region. ‘As Bangalore has developed because of HAL, this mega food park will change the fortune of farmers in UP,’ he said.

He even asked the farmers the price at which they are selling potato. ‘It is between Rs 6 to Rs 10 per kilogram. Just this much. Do you know the chips are sold at Rs 400 per kg,’ he said and added that even fruits and vegetables would be processed in this mega food park.

‘People of Amethi are like my family and now Kumar Mangalam Birla has also joined the family, who would be setting up this mega food park’, he said.

The Congress vice-president also said that Fursatganj would be developed as international airport to export the processed items.

Gandhi also announced that closed Hindustan Paper Mill will re-open giving jobs to 10,000 people.

The programme was also attended by union minister for Agriculture and Food Processing Charan Das Mahant and officials of the Aditya Birla Group including Kumar Mangalam Birla and Rajshree Birla.
