Former MLA in jail in dowry death case

Former Congress MLA Shadi Ram is among four people arrested in connection with the alleged suicide committed by his 27-year-old daughter-in-law Rekha. The other three include Congress leader’s wife Dharamwati, son Sudhanshu and daughter Maneesha.
The victim’s family on Monday blocked Ring Road near Jahangirpuri in the afternoon demanding a post-mortem examination of the body at Safdarjung Hospital and the inclusion of a woman doctor in the panel. The police said Rekha did not leave any suicide note behind. Rekha was found hanging at her in-law’s house in Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla area on Saturday. Her family alleged she had been killed over dowry.
Shadi Ram represented Kamala Nagar for two terms between 1998 and 2008.
