In yet another case of harassment of domestic helps, the Noida police have lodged a complaint against a former IAS officer for allegedly assaulting his 25-year-old domestic help at Sector 49 station. Â
According to the police, Amar Sardaar who hails from West Bengal had started working in the house of former bureaucrat Ashok Kumar Sen five years ago in Sector 50. However, he was allegedly not given salary and was physically tortured.
The incident came to light on Friday evening, when Sardaar’s brother Veerpal lodged a complaint against the former bureaucrat with a senior officer in West Bengal government in Delhi who contacted the Noida police asking them to take action.
The police said that they have received a complaint stating that Sardaar’s employer had illegally confined him and was not letting him meet his family. Sardaar was reportedly physically tortured by his employer when he protested against the torture. Â
Amar’s brother, Veerpal, had lodged a complaint that Amar was not given any salary and was being beaten up by Sen whenever he used to ask for his salary. He also alleged that the family was not allowed to meet Amar and had not seen him for the last one-and-a-half years.
On Friday around 1 pm, Veerpal reached Sen’s house with the members of an NGO to rescue his brother Sen started abusing them and refused to let Amar go with them. Veerpal later complained to the police about the incident. The police team reached the spot and rescued Amar and booked the retired officer under various sections of IPC.
Pritinder Singh, SSP said, ‘After Amar’s brother lodged a complaint, a team from Sector 49 police station reached the former officer’s house and found Sardaar working inside. The team rescued him and handed him over to his family.’ However, the police said that the former IAS officer and his family refuted the claims saying that they never held Sardaar and were going to release him from work by 20 November.
On the basis of the complaint, the police have booked the retired officer for voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful confinement of his domestic help under the Bonded Labour Act and sections 342, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.
