Former homeguard held for forging, using fake Delhi police I-card

Delhi police has arrested the maker and user of fake Delhi police identity cards. The accused is a former Delhi police home guard and currently worked as a receptionist at an eye-care clinic in west Delhi's Janakpuri area.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning, when the accused, Ram Babu Sharma (42), riding on a two-wheeler, jumped the signal near C-3, Janakpuri and was immediately apprehended by a traffic police constable.

According to police officials, he showed an identity card which claimed he was a Delhi police head constable.  The accused started arguing with the traffic police constable, insisting that he be let off as he was getting late for work.
'However, the traffic constable on duty called the police helpline to check his identity and the identity card was found to be forged,’ said a police official.

Ram Babu Sharma was detained in morning at about 11 am and formally arrested in the evening after the matter had been probed.
During investigation, he said that another person was involved in the crime, but denied to divulge any details. Two similar forged identity cards of the Delhi police were found on him.

'He has been booked under, Section 419: Punishment for cheating by personation, Section 420: Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, Section 468: Forgery for purpose of cheating and Section 471: Using as genuine a forged document,' said a police officer.
On Monday, Ram Babu Sharma was produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate and the police filed for a judicial custody of 14 days. However, his lawyers have filed a bail application.
