On Monday, Sanjay Jagdale former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with Sundar Raman, CEO of the IPL was called by Delhi police for a meeting that has been described as ‘a mere formality’. Police officials said that they had wanted to understand the revenue model of the IPL, in connection with the spot-fixing scam that is currently being probed.
When a senior official was asked why the two had been called, he said, 'There was nothing specific that we wanted to ask them. We just wanted their version. Three parties were involved in the whole episode - players, team owners and BCCI. We have already questioned the players. So now it was the turn of BCCI.' A senior police official said, 'We wanted to ask them about the standard draft drafted by BCCI and ICC. Jagdale was specifically questioned to get an idea about BCCI's role in the agreement between team Rajasthan Royals, the Board and the cricketers as the agreement is a tripartite one.'
Brief statements by Jagdale, followed by Raman were given in a written form. 'Jagdale shared the details of the contract, how the players were contracted to play for particular teams, they were advised to play with true spirit, and stick to the BCCI and ICC rules regarding anti corruption,' the official said quoting Jagdale's statement.
The official also said that one police commissioner has been appointed by the Supreme Court to do the inquiry on part of BCCI. 'Neither Jagdale on behalf of BCCI nor Raman from IPL has filed any complaint, against the tainted players' the official added.
Jagdale resigned from his post as BCCI secretary recently, following the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
