Former air hostess hangs self, Haryana politician in the dock

A case of abettment of suicide has been registered against the Haryana politician Gopal Kanda, after a 23-year-old former air hostess Geetika Sharma committed suicide in Ashok Vihar in Delhi on Sunday. Her suicide note mentioned Kanda's name.
Kanda was the minister of state for home affairs in the Haryana government till Sunday evening, after which he resigned. He is also the chairperson of the MDLR Airlines, where Sharma worked as the air hostess. She was promoted to the post of director in the company, the position she quit about a month ago.
After resigning, Kanda said, 'Everyone has to face allegations. At this time, I am facing the charge that an employee with my company had alleged that I have forced her to commit suicide. As the investigations proceed, I will come clean.'
The police recovered a suicide note from Sharma's room, where she was found hanging from a ceiling fan. The note blamed Kanda and Aruna Chadha, a manager in MDLR Airlines, as the persons responsible for forcing her to take the extreme step. The recovery of the note and its content were confirmed by P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police [north-west].
On the basis of the suicide note, the Delhi Police have booked Kanda and Chadha under Section 306 [abettment to suicide] of the Indian Penal Code. According to police, a team has been sent to Kanda's residence in Civil Lines in Gurgaon. Meanwhile, fearing a law and order situation, the police presence has been increased outside Kanda's residence.
Sharma's family reported the incident to the police at about 7.30 am on Sunday. Finding her door locked from inside, the cops broke it open and found her body hanging by the ceiling fan, said a senior police official.
Gaurav Sharma, the victim's elder brother told Millennium Post, 'Kanda used to harass my sister. Earlier she was working as an air hostess with MDLR Airlines. Due to mental harassment meted out by Kanda, she left the job. Later she joined Emirates Airlines as an air hostess. Again, Kanda offered her job in her airlines in management. After her refusal, he pressurised her several times, and that is why she joined there. Within few days, she again resigned. Then Kanda came to our house to talk to her and our family and gave her an opportunity to rejoin the company as a director. After lot of persuasion, she agreed to join. But a month ago, she again left the job.'
Geetika family blamed Kanda for their daughter's death. They said, 'Kanda used to harass our daughter. Not only her, he used to pressurise our whole family to force Geetika to stay with his company, as he believed that she was very lucky for his company.'
'When Geetika joined Emirates, Kanda wrote a letter to Emirates alleging that Geetika is characterless, therefore her services should be terminated as soon as possible. … He used to spy on her when she was working with him. Also, he used to follow her and keep track of her,' added Gaurav.
KANDA’S PAST IMPERFECT
Haryana’s Minister of State for Home Gopal Kanda, whose name has cropped up in the suicide of a former flight attendant in Delhi Sunday, is not new to controversies.
In July last year, Kanda’s security personnel had badly beaten up former cricketer Atul Wassan on the Delhi-Gurgaon highway after Wassan’s car overtook his motorcade. Though the incident was captured on video, no case was registered as Wassan did not press charges.
Elected as an Independent legislator from Sirsa in the October 2009 assembly polls, Kanda joined the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in controversial circumstances.
He had to be escorted out to the Sirsa airport under protection of paramilitary forces to enable him to come to Delhi and meet Hooda. The Congress had failed to get a majority in the assembly polls and needed the support of the seven Independent legislators to return to power.
A property dealer-turned-politician, Kanda, a multi-millionaire, was once considered close to former chief minister and Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Prakash Chautala but later fell out with him.
A few months after taking oath as minister, Kanda visited the income tax office in Delhi’s Jhandewalan area. He was facing serious charges, including beating up tax officers during raids at his offices. Kanda’s driver was involved in a gang rape case in Gurgaon November 2010. The victim was gang-raped in a car in the campus of Jan Pratinidhi apartments [MLA apartments] here in sector 28, where Kanda’s niece lived in the flat issued to him. The victim was working as a maid there. A case was registered.
In another incident in 2010, Kanda was caught on camera using abusive language and asking his security personnel to fire at traders who were observing as strike in Sirsa district after his motorcade was stopped during the protest.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people and members of Indian National Lok Dal took to streets against Kanda on Sunday. The protest was led by Gopi Chand, Former Deputy speaker of Haryana. In the protest, Kanda’s effigy was torched and slogans were raised against him. The protest was carried out near Daak Khana in Gurgaon. Since Sunday morning, security near Kanda’s residence has also been increased. The suicide note recovered from the victim, Geetika Sharma, blamed Kanda for mentally harrassing her. Her family members also alleged that Kanda used to spy on her and forced her to work in his company only.

I am ending myself today because I’m shattered inside. My trust has been broken and I’m being cheated. Two people responsible for my death are ARUNA CHADHA and GOPAL GOYAL KANDA. Both of them have broken my trust and misused me for their own benefits. They have ruined my life and now they are trying to sabotage my family members.
My family is very innocent. Aruna and Gopal Goyal are liars, cheaters and crook. They can hurt and ruin anyone for their own purpose. I’ve forgiven them number of times but it was my biggest mistake. Gopal Goyal before also did hurt me and my family but we still forgave him but he again misused our innocence and trust. He is a cheat and a fraud man. These two should be punished for their wrong deed and malicious intentions towards me and my family. They have made my life abnormal. I Love my mom, dad and bhai.
Gopal Goyal is a fraud. He always keep his bad intentions towards girls. He is a man of no shame and no guilt. He always takes advantage of others. He has illegal relationship with a woman named ‘Ankita’ and a girl child also with her. Still he keep on hitting on girls. He is a shameless and worst man I have ever seen in my life. In the name of relationships, trust, god, he cheats people and harasses. He always lies. He lies to his family, kids, people around, everyone.
Now this time Aruna is also helping him to hurt me, harass me, sabotage my family. She use to act as my well wisher but eventually she has shown her true colors. For the sake of her job, she can stoop down to any level.
My biggest mistake was I trusted them, which is now costing my life. I will never ever forgive them. They are the one who have separated me today from my mom, dad and bhai. I hate them, these two.
