Some masked men on motorcycles attacked a car belonging to a former legislator from Burari Sanjeev Jha on Saturday night. At the time of the incident, the AAP leader was not present in the vehicle.
However, his driver was brutally assaulted and his mobile phone was snatched by the assailants. The initial probe suggests it was a pre-planned attack and Jha was the main target. A case has been registered against unidentified assailants based on the driver’s statement.
Speaking to Millennium Post, Jha said, “The attack took his driver Shahid, 22, by surprise and he couldn’t note down the number of any of the five bikes on which the men had arrived.”
Shahid had dropped Jha at his home and was heading to Wazirabad at the time of the attack. When “Shahid reahed near Jharoda Chowki, the masked assailants stopped the car and forcibly entered into it. On realising that I wasn’t in the car, they attacked Shahid with knives and also threatened to kill me”, Jha quoted Shahid as saying. He further said the accused masked themselves using mufflers.
Shahid has registered a complaint at Burari police station. Police said they are investigating the case in which there are no clues yet to the identify the suspects.
Jha, meanwhile alleged that it was a ‘politically motivated’ attack.
Jha’s name was in the first list of Delhi state Assembly poll candidates declared by AAP over a fortnight ago.
