Objections by concerned departments notwithstanding, Delhi government is going to put money from local area development funds of legislators and councillors in 32 unauthorised colonies of south Delhi that are located on land belonging to the forest department and the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
These 32 colonies form a girdle around post south Delhi colonies and after this property prices in these areas are set to shoot up.
The move comes ahead of the Delhi assembly polls scheduled for November-December this year with an eye on the large number of voters staying in these colonies. The urban development department of the Delhi government has been directed to bring a note before the state cabinet in this regard, minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
Lovely said the government was going to allow development works across south Delhi covering Tughlaqabad, Tughlaqabad extention, Sangam Vihar, Devly Gaon, Badarpur and Bijwasan. He added the cabinet has already given in principal approval for regulation of development work in 205 such unauthorised colonies that have come up on forest and ASI land. Of these 205 colonies, 157 are partly on forest land, while 48 settlements have encroached on land belonging to archaeological survey.
The Delhi government has earlier regularised 895 unauthorised colonies which are on private land. The 205 other colonies which have come up on forest and ASI land have so far failed to meet regularisation guidelines.
The minister informed that development works in these colonies would include building roads, sewerages, garbage collection centres etc. Development work in these colonies was stalled so far due to stricter guidelines issued by the central government at the time of regularising 895 colonies.
