‘Foreign teachers preaching jihadi dogma in madrasas’

On the sidelines of the 75th Raising Day of the paramilitary Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) in Gurgaon, Singh said, ‘We are monitoring the activities of some madrasas over suspicion that foreign teachers there were indoctrinating young students with those ideologies, which could be against the national security.’

Singh’s statement came over reports of Bangladeshi nationals teaching students at a madrasa in West Bengal’s Burdwan. ‘We are keeping an eye on those madrasas.’ In a confidential report submitted to the Home Ministry by security agencies prepared by national security adviser Ajit Doval has suggested that madrasas with Indian teachers were not involved in any jihadi or separatist activities or indoctrination.

However, it also claimed that the Burdwan madrasas’ teachers, affiliated to banned terror group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), were allegedly involved in indoctrinating young students and attracting them to jihadi ideology.

It was learnt that MHA came across some of the Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals involved in such activities and involved in ‘hate speeches’ against India. Earlier, on 6 November, Moulana Mahmood Asad Madani of the Jamiat Ulema-e Hind has raised objection after madarasas were being branded as terror hubs. But he also admitted that the madrasas recognized by the government were not doing the real job. ‘It was being done by the unrecognized ones,’ he had said.

Meanwhile, Singh has urged the Maoists to end violence and be part of democracy for the betterment of India and its people. ‘Maoists must say no to violence and be part of democracy to resolve all issues. Left-wing extremism has no place in democracy. Even China is not following the theory of Maoism anymore, so Maoists in India must come forward for talks with the government,’ he said.

He also praised the role of CRPF personnel in tackling the Maoist issue. CRPF Director General Dilip Trivedi and other officers were present at the celebration ceremony held at the CRPF camp in Kadarpur in Gurgaon.
