Ford India sales crash 38% in March

The company had sold a total of 12,150 units in the same month last year, Ford India said in a statement.

The domestic sales also went down by 41.61 per cent to 5,271 units in March this year as against 9,028 units in the same month last year, it added.

The company exported 2,228 units last month compared to 3,122 units in the year-ago period, registering a fall of 28.64 per cent. Commenting on the sales performance, Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Vinay Piparsania said: ‘Despite the difficult business environment this quarter, we have continued to build our brand in India with the launch of the Figo Celebration and the Endeavour Alterrain editions. We see the current downturn as cyclical and expect stronger sales growth in the future.’


GM INDIA SALES SKID 15%

General Motors India on Monday reported a 14.94 per cent decline in its sales at 9,006 units in March 2013.

The company had sold 10,588 units in the same month of 2012, General Motors India said in a statement.

During March 2013, the company sold 3,006 units of Beat, 3,272 units of Sail and 1,853 units of Tavera, it added.


HONDA MOTORCYCLE SALES RISE15%

Two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Monday reported 15 per cent growth in its total sales for March 2013 at 2,52,773 units.

The company’s total sales stood at 2,20,487 units in the corresponding month last year.

   
INDIA YAMAHA SALES ZOOM 21%

Two-wheeler maker India Yamaha Motor (IYM) on Monday reported 20.50 per cent increase in total sales for March at 50,473 units.

The company had sold a total of 41,886 units in the corresponding month last year, IYM said in a statement.


HONDA, HYUNDAI HIKE PRICES BY UP TO RS 10K

Car makers Honda Cars India and Hyundai Motors India on Monday said they have hiked prices of their vehicles by up to Rs 10,000 to offset increased cost of on board diagnostic compliance changes (OBDC).

While Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said its hike will range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000 across models, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said the price increase will be between Rs 575 and Rs 2,830.


RENAULT INDIA SALES JUMP OVER 8-FOLD

Renault India on Monday reported an over eight-fold jump in sales in March this year at 8,232 units on the back of strong sales of its SUV Duster.

The company had sold a total of 1,005 vehicles during March 2012. In March 2013, the sports utility vehicle (SUV) Duster accounted for 6,313 units, sedan Scala 1,026 units, compact car Pulse 541 units, sedan Fluence 337 units and SUV Koleos 15 units.


TVS SUFFERS 8% SLIDE

Two and three wheeler maker TVS Motor Company has reported a 8.18 per cent decline in sales in March to 1,67,583 units as against 1,82,527 units in the same month last year.

The city-based company witnessed a fall in two-wheeler sales to 1,62,507 units from 1,80,274 units in March, 2012, TVS Motor said in a statement.Sales of two-wheelers in the domestic market also decreased to 1,43,239 units in March 2013 as against 1,60,736 units sold in March 2012, it said.

The company sold 61,808 units in March 2013 as against 65,994 units in the same month of last year.
