The 5.54-minute long video was shot on 12 January where a man was nabbed by Delhi police officials deployed at Lal Qila. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained. But the policemen, who have been captured on the camera reportedly by a passerby, are clearly violating the rules by beating the man in a public place.
The video clearly captures the two officers in their uniforms beating the persons with wooden sticks. The victim was also asked to take off his clothes in the cold weather. He can be seen begging for mercy but the police went on beating him mercilessly.
The man was forced to open his palm to beat him on his hand later he was asked to hold the grills and open his arms. When the victim did so, the two cops striped his pants and beat him on his butt. The policemen hit him more than five times on his back tearing his vest.
The place where the crime was caught on camera is the same place where the Republic Day parade is going to end on 26 January. Several people have alleged that the police have treated them brutally in the past too, but the allegations could never be proved because of a lack of evidence.
This time, the brutal act was captured by someone and was shared on YouTube. The video has been titled ‘Brutality of Delhi Police near Lal Qila on 12-01-14’. A third police officer too can be seen joining the brutality with a wooden stick.
The third officer also slapped the victim. All the three policemen had beaten him more than 35 times. Later, the police officers can also be seen snatching the victim’s wallet.
Attempts to reach senior officers for reactions failed as they did not take phone calls and didn’t answer the phone. Later in the day, Deepak Mishra, special commissioner of police (law and order) assured Millennium Post that action will be taken into the matter and those found guilty will be punished.
