True love is perhaps easier to predict than the weather right now. But then Capital city is Capital city. Events dot the city - the Delhi International Arts Festival is on full swing, as is the Yuva Natya Utsav and the Garden Tourism Festival at the Garden of Five Senses. The World Book Fair kicked off on Saturday at Pragati Maidan (it is on till the 23rd of February) so make sure you head over and grab some great titles.
In another news, The Home Of The Traveler which is the first of its kind concept store curated by JJ Valaya houses a slew of artifacts that infuses the old with the new to creating a harmonious synergy out of this contradiction, announced their association with The Wine Company. To celebrate this unique association, THT organised a special event hosted by JJ Valaya which is a first step to THT’s long term association with all things ‘culturally inspired’.
In all this hustle and bustle, we just about got a chance to check out The Flying Saucer Cafe at Epicuria, Nehru Place. This restaurant will grab you from the word go with their crazy shots (after which you get to break the glass - yay!) and take you smoothly through some great hookah and some very nice dishes.
We were bowled over by the meat and cheese platter, the Aracini, the open salmon sandwich and the Carbonara pasta. The food comes as an added bonus because the property is great. The Flying Saucer café has many quirky points in their kitty. The idea is to get a sense of activity and create a visual interest and thereby an invitation. The contemporary interior design accentuated by inviting mood lighting, conveys style and sophistication with a hint of simplicity and an undoubted sense of well-being.Â

The tables also have crazy coasters with taglines like The DJ knows what he’s playing café, The I don’t give a flying bar, The Don’t tell your Mumma bar, The I’m gonna lick that plate café, The I will have what’s on that table café. A meal for two comes to about Rs 1200 (plus taxes). Head over!
We took some time out to check out the Fio Country Kitchen and Bar at the Garden of Five Senses while we were doing the rounds of the Garden Tourism Festival. Fio is one place that combines comfort and class with excellent ease over all their properties (the latest one is getting famous at Nehru Place’s Epicuria) and this joint is perfect for those lazy Sunday brunches. We loved the Cheesy Baby Potatoes with Chicken (with cheese, potatoes and chicken - how can one go wrong!) and the Char Grilled Norwegian Sea Bass but the Phylo Tazza was a great vegetarian surprise for us.
Their Filo pastry is absolutely delightful and serves as the base for both the Phylo Tazza and the Fio Country Casserole - so make sure you try it. As far as the drinks are concerned - we swear by the Hot Wired. Ask the bartender for the alcoholic version of this drink that fuses blueberry and rock salt to amazing perfection.
A meal for two at Fio Country Kitchen and Bar comes to about Rs 2500 (plus taxes) and they open by 12:30 pm every day.
