Food grains at cheaper rate during Kumbh mela

Gearing up for the Maha Kumbh Mela beginning from 14 January in Allahabad the state government has decided to provide food grains at PDS rates from 125 shops during the 55 days mela which will end on Maha Shivratri on 10 March.
These PDS shops would distribute 16,200 metric tonne of wheat, 9600 metric tonne of rice, 6000 metric tonne of sugar, 13,200 kilo litre of kerosine and 400 kilo litres of milk, government spokesman said here on Monday and added that till now over 2 lakh ration cards have been distributed.
For distributing milk 150 shops have been set up in the mela area, the spokesman said.
He said the PWD department has constructed 156.20 kilometers of temporary roads and 18 pantoon bridges in the Kumbh Mela area.
In the last Maha Kumbh in 2001 the total length of the temporary roads were 96.40 kms and 13 pantoon bridges and in 2007 Ardh Kumbh Mela the length of the road was 116.50 kms and 14 pantoon bridges.
The Jal Nigam has also made elaborate arrangements for supply of 80,000 kilo litres of drinking water by setting up 40 tubewells in the mela area. Around 550 kms of temporary pipeline have been installed in the mela area with 20,000 tap connections. Five overhead water tanks have been also constructed in the mela area.
In 2001 Maha Kumbh, the total supply of drinking water was 56,000 kilo litres through 28 tubewells by laying 340 kms of temporary pipes. In 2007 Ardh Kumbh Mela, 76,000 kilo litres of drinking water was supplied through 38 tubewells by laying 458 kms of pipeline.
