Following St Stephen’s, other colleges plan to revise fees

After St Stephen’s College decided to hike its fees, various other colleges have decided to revise their fee structure. The fees for the upcoming session might go up by 2-10 per cent.

St Stephen’s College, for instance, has increased its fees for humanities and science courses by Rs 1,225 and Rs 1,345 per semester, respectively. The hostel fee will also go up by Rs 7,100 per annum.

Therefore, for the upcoming session, the annual fee for humanities courses will be Rs 23,660; Rs 24,020 for mathematics and Rs 25,655 for physics and chemistry. The students wishing to stay in hostel will have to pay Rs 44,450 per annum.

Bharati College in West Delhi has also hiked fee for language courses by Rs 1,000. The fee has now been increased from Rs 7,500 to Rs 8,500 as the college plans to charge more for medical facilities and computer labs.

Some of the colleges, however are still mulling over their plans to hike fees. Ramjas College in North Campus is still undecided on the fee hike. ‘Our’s is the least expensive college in the university. But the college authorities are considering a minor hike this session,’ said a professor at the university not wishing to be named.

Venkateshwara College in university’s south campus is also likely to see a fee hike. The teachers’ committee has recommended increasing the fee, the college principal said. Maharaja Agrasen College is set to increase fees for various undergraduate courses by five per cent. The fees for undergraduate courses in English, Economics, Hindi and Political Science is set to increase by 5 per cent. But the college principal also informed that fee for Journalism and Mass Communication will be reduced.

Sri Ram College of Commerce, Daulat Ram College and Dyal Singh College have, however no plans of increasing their fee. But they are planning to reveal their fee structures after the first cut-off only.
