Focus on heads

Famous artist Neeraj Gupta once again displayed his masterpieces in his signature style “grotesque heads” at Visual Art Gallery, which started from 1 December. The exhibition  was inaugurated by veteran artist Kapila Watson and will be on till December 7.

The  works of  heads had impressive figural distortion and descriptive  thick layers  of pigmented cement having vibrant colours which describes that it is basically for communication of emotional  intensity and not for decoration. Some of the forms were fantastical while others were quite amusing but those anomalous forms had reflection and expression of inner most self of the artist.

Through his work Neeraj wanted to depict the anxieties of modern life. He  adopts a distorted but sophisticated approach to achieve the abstraction of facial forms. He used distortions  to emphasize features of spiritual significance thus increasing the intrinsic aesthetics value of composition His  sculptures were bold in execution and virtual in expression. The Sculptural forms truly reflect  the complete understanding of the full spectrum of the aesthetics foundations of contemporary forms. The representational style of versatile artist Neeraj Gupta is abstract rather than naturalistic.
