Floods in Pak kill over 80; nearly 3 lakh affected

At least 81 people have been killed and nearly three lakh others displaced across Pakistan in the devastating floods triggered by torrential rains, officials said on Tuesday.
At least 34 people were killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 15 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eight in Punjab, seven in Balochistan and five in Gilgit-<g data-gr-id="30">Baltistian</g> among others, bringing the overall toll to 81, said Ahmad Kamal, an official with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
About 36 people sustained injuries in the rain and <g data-gr-id="19">flood related</g> accidents. At least 294,844 people were affected by the floods. About 1,855 houses have been destroyed and crops on 2,05,366 acres of land have been damaged.
NDMA along with <g data-gr-id="23">army</g> and civil authorities have taken measures to help the people displaced by the deluge.
The district’s Mor Kahu area is the worst-hit where around seven villages have been swept away. It has been already cut off from <g data-gr-id="20">rest</g> of the district and there are reports of shortages of food and medicines.
Over 200 relief camps have been set up in the affected areas. The latest spell of rains, which started on Friday, is likely to continue for <g data-gr-id="31">rest</g> of the week, according to officials.
