Flood-like situation spells misery in Arunachal

Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi at a state level review meeting on Tuesday directed the deputy commissioners to take preventive and relief measures to restore maintenance of essential public services and minimum loss to lives and properties. It was also decided that a request would be made to the Centre to depute <g data-gr-id="26">team</g> of central ministries for damage assessment immediately.

Road construction agencies like PWD, RWD, BRO and MoRTH were put on high alert and directed to initiate immediate restoration measures, an official communique said.

All concerned have been directed to assess the damage caused to public infrastructure as on August 31 last and adequate fund would be provided to the DCs and concerned agencies by the state government accordingly. Over 60 villages under various circles of Namsai district have been badly affected by the current wave flood. 

Around 600 people from 117 families were sheltered in three relief camps set up at <g data-gr-id="23">Jenglai</g>, Kaba and New <g data-gr-id="24">Silatoo</g>, Namsai Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma said.

Although water level in various rivers in the district had gradually started to recede this morning with <g data-gr-id="28">slight</g> improvement in the weather condition, the Noa <g data-gr-id="20">Dehing</g>, Lohit and <g data-gr-id="21">Jengthu</g> Rivers are still flowing above the danger level.

Situation grim in Assam
 The flood situation in Assam continues to be grim as more than 900,000 people in 19 districts remain affected following incessant rainfall in the upper reaches of neighbouring Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh, officials said.

According to the state disaster management authority, four people have died due to floods in Nagaon and Morigaon districts since Tuesday. The water resources department said rivers flowing through Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Baksa and Dibrugarh were in spate following incessant rainfall since the last few days.
