Flat-buyers stage protest against Emaar

Around 300 families owning flats in Emaar MGF’s Emerald Hills residential project in Sector 65 staged a demonstration outside the corporate office of the developer at Sikanderpur on Friday, in protest against the prolonged delay in possession of flats.

Led by the Emerald Hills Owners Welfare Association, the flat owners turned up in large numbers demanding immediate possession of their flats.

The harassed flat owners have made several complaints to the authorities, but in vain. A complaint was handed over to Deputy Commissioner T L Satyaprakash on August 27 last year and another memorandum was submitted on May 9 this year, claimed the protesters. The association represents 1,400 families, to whom flats/houses were allotted in the Emerald Hills Township project.

The indefinite delay in completion continues to cause significant suffering to the members, many of whom are paying rent as well as EMI. Several members have invested their lifelong savings and pension funds with a dream to get a house.

Rama Chawla, president, Emerald Hills Owners Welfare Association said: “We continue to plead with the authorities in Gurgaon and Chandigarh. We would like to keep our faith in the system and the government and like to believe that the powerful builder lobby will not influence them into inaction at a time when thousands of honest tax-paying citizens are suffering. All we ask for is Emaar-MGF to deliver our apartments by this fiscal year and compensate us for the financial losses suffered by our members.”

Emaar-MGF spokesperson said:“The Emerald Hills project is a large township of almost 200 acres. The development works are being carried out in phases and the project will be completed and handed over in phases to ensure seamless delivery. As a matter of fact, the company has already commenced offering possession for a phase of plots. The company is in regular touch with its customers and we are also uploading regular construction updates for the project on our website, which are also shared with the customers in a transparent manner.”
