All Delhi police’s claims of taking rapid action against any accused in any case has fallen flat on its face. In a recent incident, involving a Delhi police official accused of acting obscenely in the public, the accused cop has been continuing to report for work, before a raid was launched to catch him. However, the constable managed to give the raid team a slip. Another accused in the same case, also a Delhi police constable, was arrested, but is currently admitted in a hospital for treatment, after he complained of feeling ill.
On Friday Yogender, a retired police official, filed a complaint at the Mansarovar Park police station that one a relative of his, whose family members are also employed with the Delhi police, are acting obscenely in public and stripping before the female members of his family.
Acting on the complaint, Delhi police official arrested Jaidev, a constable at the Daryaganj police station, but he fell ill and is now admitted at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The police has allowed his son, also posted a Delhi police constable, to take care of him at the hospital.
Four days after the complaint was received, the other three accused in the case, identified as Jagdev, Jagmaal and Surajmaan, all Delhi police constables are absconding. On Monday, several raids were conducted by a police team of Mansarovar Park police station to nab the remaining three accused. On Monday, a team reached New Ashok Nagar police station to nab Jagdev, but he had already fled the spot. While it has been established that the arrested accused Jaidev and Jagdev are brothers, it is yet unknown how the other two accused are related to them.
When Millennium Post contacted the station head officer (SHO) of New Ashok Nagar, he said that he has not received any official complaint against Jagdev from the Mansarovar Park police station. 'If I receive the report, I will surely forward it to my seniors who will take appropriate action against him. Till then I can't stop the alleged accused constable from coming to work,' he added.
However, a senior police official at Mansarovar Park police station claimed that they have informed New Ashok Nagar police station.
All the accused have been booked under the sections- 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (molestation), 294 (obscene acts), 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of Indian Penal Code and section 12 of POSCO Act, 2012. 'Efforts are on to nab the remaining accused,' the official added.
