‘We found out that the robbers had entered the room by breaking a window pane. We were also tipped-off that a gang from Bavana was involved in the crime,’ said V Renganathan, Additional CP.
‘Yesterday with the help of technical surveillance and informers we got to know that there was movement of some robbers in Vikas Puri area at four in the morning. A special team under the guidance of inspector Raj Kumar was deployed to the spot and five people were arrested,’ he added.
On interrogation the accused confessed their involvement in the Vikaspuri murder case. The accused are in the 16-17 age group. Their mastermind Rashid apparently is a mere 14-year-old. Rashid enters the house through the broken window and open the house for them. Rashid is still missing.
The accused told the police that on the night of the murder they reached the spot in a three wheeler and broke the window pane with a screw driver. They were stealing cash from the house when suddenly Joginder got up and started to make noise. They killed her by smashing her head on the wall and pushing her to the floor.
‘They looted Rs 35,000 cash from the almirah and also took fixed deposit receipts of Rs 2 lakh from the house. A pair of silver anklets were also stolen by them. We have recovered them all,’ said Renganathan. They also locked the house of other neighbours from outside just to ensure they don’t get caught. According to the accused caught by the police, Rashid used to recce the area and identify potential victims.
The accused used to work as labourers in Punjabi Bagh, Janakpuri and Vikas Puri and know these areas well. They have committed three robberies in the same area in the past.
