Five receive burn injuries after woman’s clothes catch fire

A minor fire broke out at a house in the Inder Enclave in Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar on Friday afternoon when a woman’s clothes caught fire after a lamp fell on her. 

On the first day of Navratri, the woman had lit a lamp to mark the festival when her clothes caught fire, said a senior police official. In a bid to save her, four other family members including her three children suffered minor burn injuries, added police.

According to the fire department, they got a call at around 1.35 pm that such an incident has happened after a lamp fell on a woman. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

According to the police, the woman identified as Aanchal suffered burns. In a bid to save her, husband Ravi Shankar and three children too suffered burn injuries. The children have been identified as Purvi (5), Ria (6) and Nidhi (3). 

The family of five was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital after which they were referred to the Safdarjung Hospital. They were discharged after treatment.

In a similar incident, a fire broke in Shalimar Bagh, however, no one suffered as all the family members were out at the time of the incident.
