Five railway employees given safety awards

Five railway employees were honoured with safety awards by Northern Railways for their alertness and prompt action in preventing an accident. The award ceremony was held at Northern Railways’ headquarters on Thursday.

Guard at Varanasi headquarter of Lucknow division, O P Rai,  detected jerks in the track while a train was passing through Barabanki-Safedabad stations on 20 December last year. He promptly informed the driver and station master.

Pointsman Sant Lal noticed smoke coming out of Shaheed Express. This train was passing through Mohri station on 4 January. Lal raised an alarm by calling out loudly to ASM Naresh Raj Meena on duty to stop the train.

Harish Kumar, pointsman under station superintendent, Kauli of Rajpura-Dhuri section of Ambala detected hot axle in a goods train on 24 December last year. Similar accident was averted at Saharanpur station by sub-inspector and RPF Saharanpur, Manoj Kumar, who was on patrolling duty on 7 January.

Awards were given away by V K Gupta, General Manager, to all the employees for their alertness that saved so many lives.
