Five militants killed while trying to infiltrate into J&K

“Five terrorists were eliminated by the Army while they were trying to infiltrate across the LoC in Gurez sector. The alert soldiers thus effectively foiled the infiltration bid,” Srinagar-based Defence spokesman Lt Col NN Joshi said.

Giving details of the operation, he said <g data-gr-id="20">first</g> contact with the infiltrators was established late night just as they crossed the LoC (Line of Control).

They were challenged and an intense gunfight ensued, resulting in <g data-gr-id="17">elimination</g> of two militants.
The rest took cover behind the rocks and bushes, he said, adding after an operation by the Army which lasted till this afternoon, three more terrorists were eliminated, taking the number of eliminated terrorists to five. Joshi said a huge cache of “war-like” stores of arms and ammunition was recovered from them. It included five AK-47 rifles, a Rocket Projectile Gun (RPG) and an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL).

“The Army is continuing to search and sanitise the area to ensure safety and security of the people,” he said. 

Ultras kill former militant, injure his 3-year-old son
A former militant was on Saturday killed and his three-year-old son injured after unidentified militants struck at his residence, about 55 <g data-gr-id="35">kms</g> from here in Sopore area of Kashmir. The victim Bashir Ahmed Bhat, who had quit militancy after serving a prison term, was attacked when he was playing with his son near his residence at Sagipora at around 7.50 PM, official sources said. 
 The militants, suspected to be of either Hizbul Mujahideen or its breakaway faction <g data-gr-id="36">Laskhar</g>-e-Islam, first lobbed a hand grenade, which failed to explode. Sensing trouble, Bhat tried to escape with his son but the militants opened fired with their automatic guns injuring him and his child, they said. Both were rushed to hospital but Bhat succumbed to his injuries on <g data-gr-id="38">way</g> while the <g data-gr-id="39">three year old</g> son was in a critical condition, they said.

Separatist leader Asiya Andrabi held 
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested chief of radical women's outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Asiya Andrabi, in connection with a case registered against her under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for hoisting Pakistani flag last month. "Andrabi has been arrested in connection with the case registered under Section 13 of Unlawful Activities Act on August 17," a police official said. 

Andrabi has been lodged at women's police station. The DeM chief celebrated Pakistan's Independence Day on August 14 at her residence by singing that country's national anthem and unfurling the flag of the neighbouring country on the outskirts of the city.
