Five people, including two women, were killed and 16 others injured in three different mishaps in Delhi on Wednesday. In a freak accident, two women were killed after a heap of coal fell on them while they were trying to trespass the power plant area near Indraprastha, the police said.
The incident took place at around 3.30 pm. The deceased were identified as Manisha (19) and Nilima (40). Another woman, identified as Vijaylakshmi, who was with them was admitted in a hospital with serious injuries. They are all residents of a nearby JJ cluster, said Parmaditya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).
Three youths were killed and 15 people were injured in two separate accidents in Delhi.
In the first incident, a 25-year-old engineering student of the Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology died after his speeding car collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction, at outer Delhi’s Rohini area around 12.30 pm.
According to the police, the deceased — identified as Akshat Sharma — was returning home from college with four of his friends, who were critically injured. They were all engineering students at Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology. The vehicle was driven by one Gaurav Jain and among other occupants were his parents and wife. They received minor injuries.
In the other incident, two men were killed and seven injured when a speeding Ford Figo car jumped a traffic signal and rammed into a Maruti Omni in Kotwali. Two of the seven occupants of the Maruti Omni lost their lives.
