Five held for trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from contractor

Ghaziabad: Five persons were arrested from Modi Nagar town in Ghaziabad on Thursday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from a contractor by threatening to kill his son, police said.
The victim, a tile contractor by profession, has been identified as Srikant Sharma, a resident of Gadana village.
According to police, five days ago, the accused had made a call to Sharma on his mobile phone threatening to kidnap his son if he did not pay the money.
On a tip-off, the hideout of the accused at Hanuman Puri in Modi Nagar town was raided and Amit, Kalua, Rakam Singh, Rahul and Pramod, all from Gadana village were arrested,
police said.
They further said the plot was conceived by Amit as he and his father had earlier worked with Srikant as partners. Two mobile phones used to make the threatening calls have also been recovered from their posession.
Meanwhile, all the five accused have been sent to jail, police added. Further investigations are on in the case, the officer added.
