Five held, attempt to rob CNG station foiled

A five-member gang allegedly planning to rob a CNG refilling station have been arrested in the capital, police said on Monday.

The gang also used to provide lift to unsuspecting victims in their autorickshaw late at night only to rob them at gunpoint, a senior police official said.

30-year-old Nafees alias Ganja, a resident of Zakir Nagar in Jamia Nagar, is the gang leader.

The other arrested members are Parmod Kumar, 28, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, Rahees, 25 and Anish, 23, both residents of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh and Rashid alias Munshi, 30, a resident of Ghadda Colony in Jaitpur. ‘They were arrested at around 9.30 PM on Saturday after we got inputs that they would be gathering near Kamal Ka Talab in Sarai Kale Khan. They were were planning to rob the cash of CNG pump of Sarai Kale Khan,’ ACP [South east district] Ajay Choudhary said.

Police recovered a country-made pistol with two cartridges from possession of Nafees besides three knives from his associates.

The gang had on September 16 robbed one Bal Mukund, a resident of Shiv Mandir, Khajoori Khas.

‘They stopped their autorickshaw in which two persons were sitting and offered him lift. The victim sat on rear seat along with two persons. When the TSR had reached near Millennium Park flyover they robbed Rs 22,000 from him and threw him near the road,’ Choudhary said, based on his complaint police managed to trace the gang.
