First signs of cracks in JD(U) as Nitish aide sings paeans to Modi

‘I am an admirer of Modi. Coming from a poor background, he has worked hard to reach where he has today,’ Tiwari said from the dais and attacked his party chief minister saying , ‘JDU’s alliance with the BJP was working fine. JD(U) broke ties with the BJP because of national politics. BJP elevated Narendra Modi who comes from a very humble ground.’

Questioning why Nitish Kumar was jealous of Modi, Tiwari said ‘I am an old colleague of yours Nitishji. I would be happy when my friends will move ahead. We don’t want to be the prime minister. When someone is shining, what is the harm in working together with a large heart? Why are you jealous.’ Tiwari’s speech led to an uproar at the convention.

Nitish had severed ties with the BJP a few months ago to protest Modi’s elevation as the party’s prime ministerial candidate. The Bihar chief minister had questioned Narendra Modi’s secular credentials and suggested he could exacerbate communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims in India.
