Firms rally against ‘job-giving’ cheats

Following many cases where conmen duped people by promising them jobs in government organisations, three organisations — Indian Railways, Maruti, LIC — have decided not to leave anything to chance. As soon as you open the website of any of these organisations, a warning message will flash, asking people to ‘beware of fraudulent recruitment emails/communications’.

Many cases have come to light where cheats used renowned companies’ registered trademark as well as the brand names to lure job seekers. In return they ask for money, that sometimes runs into lakhs.

According to one such complaint, someone used the name of Maruti to ‘hire’ IT, administrative and other staffers. The cheat asked job seekers to submit mandatory Rs 12,800, as refundable security to be payable through State Bank of India/ICICI Bank accounts.

Another victim of these fraud mails said he received a mail that said he was selected for a post in Maruti Suzuki’s new plant.

He was asked to pay Rs 15,800. When the victim asked the reason behind this deposit, he received another email that stated, ‘This is a measure we have taken to check bogus applications from unserious candidates, who apply for jobs. We send them offer letter and air tickets and also make arrangements in other to make their interview comfortable and then they fail to appear, which is a huge loss to the company. Because of the security deposit, we will be assured that our expenses will not be wasted. Please do comply with us, as your refundable security deposit will be returned to you in cash immediately after the interview is over at the very premises.’

Last month, five persons were arrested by the Delhi Police, who lures innocent people by promising them jobs in Indian Railways. They used to charge between Rs 5-10 lakh from the victims. Later, the accused used to give them fake appointment letters as well.
