A fire broke out in the private property in Jamia Nagar area causing the death of one man and a serious injury to another.
A senior police official said the high tension wire caught fire as the labourers were doing welding.
According to the observers, the accident was so severe that it triggered a sound like that of a cylinder blast. The injured have been admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital and is in a serious condition.
The two labourers were working at the first floor of a private property when the incident occurred. According to one of the witnesses the help to the deceased was delayed as many feared of the high voltage of current running through the wires.
According to the fire officials, as many as two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire officials received a call at 3.50 pm with a complain that a high tension wire had fallen on a building causing fire.
Even as the case is under investigation, the locals allege that it is due to the illegal construction that have cropped up in the area which is resulting in creation of structures close to the high tension wires leading to such accidents.
A similar incident was also reported from the area a month back on March 14 when two labourers got electrocuted and lost their lives while coming in touch with the high tension wire.
