Fire in Mukherjee Nagar park, no casualty

A major fire broke out in Coronation Park of North Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Sunday morning. It took more than nine hours to douse the blaze. However, no casualty was reported.

The fire department received a call about the incident around 9.10 am. According to the fire department, 13 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Smoke was emitting from the forest area. “The fire had spread in around 7 km in the forest. The situation could be brought under control only around 5 pm,” said a fire department official.

“In the initial stage, it was difficult to extinguish the fire as it had spread in the forest area. But after continued efforts, we managed to douse the inferno,” a fireman told Millennium Post.

However, the exact reason behind the forest fire is yet to be ascertained. Officials said rising temperature might have led to the blaze.

According to fire department officials, residents living near the forest area have complained about suffocation.

Early this month, a massive fire was reported in the states of Uttarakhand, Jammu &Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
