Six fire trucks were deployed to douse flames in the third floor of Shastri Bhawan – the building that houses several government offices – in the national capital, on Thursday. The fire was set off in 15 minutes and there was no casualties reported.
It is said to have been caused by a short-circuit in one of the air-conditioners in the third floor. It created panic within the building and a call to the fire department was made at 5 pm. ‘It took six fire trucks to douse the flames in 15 minutes,’ said a fire department official.
‘There has been no deaths or injuries reported. Any estimation of the loss suffered hasn’t been made yet and we are investigating the issue further,’ said a police official. Recent fire incidents have been reported from this key government building which houses the information and broadcasting ministry.
As per reports the cause of the fire was due to short-circuit in the electrical wires inside the building. ‘My alert staff informed me about the #fire in I & B ministry. Nobody is injured and all are safe. Presently I am in Pune,’ Prakash Javadekar had then tweeted.
