FIR registered against ABVP’s vice-presidential candidate

A notice has been served to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) vice-presidential candidate Pravesh Malik due to having an FIR on his name.

‘Yes, the notice has been given but since it was not proved that he was convicted, so it has been withdrawn from the DU website. Since he is an activist, so there might be an FIR on his name but that doesn’t say that he has been convicted. The court has not given its verdict yet. And there is no violation of rule,’ said Rohit Chahal, national secretary, ABVP.

The notification issued by chief election officer DS Rawat said that Refer to clause 6.5.7 of Lyngdoh Committtee Recommendations, ‘The candidate shall not have a criminal record, that is to say he  should not have been tried and/or convicted to any criminal offence or misdemeanor. The candidate shall also not have been subject to any disciplinary action by the University Authorities.’

The notice further added: ‘Mr  Parvesh  Malik  is  now served  notice to  give  reply  as  per  clause  referred  above and papers attached by tomorrow i.e. Saturday 6/09/2014  by 11:00 am failing which your candidature will be cancelled without giving you further notice.’
