FIR filed against BJP leader Harak Singh Rawat for rape

Sources said the woman, a native of Assam, had gone to Rawat’s house to discuss options regarding a job opening when he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Senior police officers of the South district confirmed about the filing of the case but refused to divulge details.

Sources said that in the early hours of Saturday, police received a complaint from a 32-year-old woman, who said that on Friday afternoon, she had gone to Rawat’s South Delhi Green Park residence where she said she was called by the minister himself who told her that he would help get a job. Here, Rawat allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Sources added that in her complaint, the woman said that she was made to stay at Rawat’s place till late on Friday night.

Police sources said that the woman’s complaint was received at the Safdarjung Enclave police station and her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC.

Meanwhile, police said that the woman has been sent for a medical examination and the reports are awaited. Sources added that the woman said she knew Rawat for the past 14-15 years. In February, 2014, another woman had complained against Rawat for allegedly molesting her.

In 2003, the same woman, who filed a complaint against Rawat at the Safdarjung Enclave police station had filed a complaint with the Dehradun police stating that she was molested by Rawat.

Although a case was registered at that time, the matter was later solved amicably, highly placed sources told Millennium Post.

In May 2016, Harak Singh Rawat was one of the Congress leaders who had rebelled against Harish Rawat’s government in Uttarakhand and joined in the BJP along with several other MLAs.

Harak Singh Rawat served as the Agriculture Minister in the Vijay Bahuguna Cabinet. In light of the rebel, the Congress government was struck down by the Supreme Court two months ago this year.
