Some of the people then jammed NH-24, on which the first message was flashed on the wireless and four senior officers-Additional District Magistrate P K Sharma, S P [Rural] Jagdish Sharma, C O Sadar Ajay Kumar and SDM Sadar-rushed to the site. They tried to pacify the crowed but failed. The cops used rubber bullets and other measure but to no avail.
The first message-‘to provide maximum possible additional force to Masuri, situation is out of control and even our lives are in danger’-was flashed on the police wireless at 7.35 pm which was repeated at 7.45 pm. At 8.40 pm ADM ordered firing to control the mob and it dispersed after two men fell down due to bullet injuries.
