Financial plan draws mixed response from Delhiites

The rail budget 2013-2014 drew a mixed reaction in the capital on Tuesday. Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal announced revision in tatkal, cancellation and the reservation charges.

Shivraj Pandey, a lawyer by profession, said,  ‘The Congress government is bogus. They don’t reduce their expenditure but make the common man suffer.’

Ashutosh Shukla, a south Delhi resident and a teacher by profession, said, ‘Tatkal prices are expensive anyway and increasing them is unfair.’ Another railway commuter, Ram Naik from Lucknow, said, ‘Passenger fares should have been increased a little, because it is important that the railways do not run at a loss.’

An army man, Vivek Singh, said, ‘With the cost of living going up at this rate, rail fares should also have been increased. The government is giving you more facilities so how will it pay for them?’ Whereas a railway employee, Rajkumar Dinker, said, ‘Rail fares should be increased since they haven’t been revised in the last 10 years. The current fares are too low.’

Mahesh Chandra Rajoria, a retired government official, said, ‘Rail fares should have been hiked for the development of the county. Hiking fares was a necessity. It was not hiked because elections are due next year.'
