‘Files could provide proof on Netaji being alive post 1945’

Netaji’s family has demanded the Narendra Modi government to launch an inquiry into his mysterious disappearance <g data-gr-id="26">post 1945</g>.

“A British intelligence  agency report testifies to what the family already believes –Netaji did not die in the Taipei air crash of 1945,” said Chandra Kumar Bose, spokesperson of the Bose family.

“The British police are also keen to know about Bose’s escape to Kabul from Kolkata (their Elgin Road house), assisted by my uncle, Sisir Kumar Bose. I think the British government had planned to assassinate Subhas Chandra Bose on his way to Kabul. But that did not become possible because he was in disguise. The police are likely to know about his <g data-gr-id="33">whereabouts,</g> while he was travelling to India. It might be revealed when the files will be declassified,” he said.

The family feels that the Bengal files will contain more evidence on snooping activities by the British police on the Bose family between 1937 and 1947. “Files no. 4, 5, 6, 7 may tell us how Sarat Chandra Bose (Netaji’s elder brother) distributed his earnings (Rs 20,000 or so daily) as a lawyer to fund the revolutionaries. He even funded the INA’s activities for a long time”, said Bose. He hopes to meet PM Narendra Modi in October.

Apart from the files in the state government’s custody, 130 files are lying with the PMO and IB in New Delhi. “We have a lot of questions. Where did Netaji go after 1945? Did he ever come back to India? Netaji’s daughter Anita Pfaff, Surya bose (my brother) and Madhuri Bose are coming from abroad to meet Modi on the declassification. I am sure the PM will keep his word on unveiling the mystery surrounding Netaji’s death,” he said.
