Acting on the reports about several retired officials illegally staying in the government flats, beyond the allotted time, the PWD of Delhi government has asked such bureaucrats to apply for retention of houses within two months of their retirement, failing of which “damage charges” will be levied on them.
A PWD circular issued recently said that, in several cases the allottees stay beyond the date of retirement by eight to 10 months, and then seek ex-post facto approval. “It is therefore informed that all retiring officers who are residing in government flats should apply for retention of house (post-retirement) well in advance, in any case, not later than two months of the retirement,” the circular states. It also directs that all such cases, where the request for retention is received after two months of retirement, will be rejected and damage charges levied for the period of stay beyond two months.
