Festival fever grips city, watch out for heavy traffic, say cops

Traffic arrangements have been beefed up, for Dussehra celebrations along with the immersion of Durga idols. Dussehra will be celebrated on Wednesday, 24 October. The immersion ofidols of Durga will happen on the same day.
According to the Delhi police officials, Shri Ram Lila Committee, Ramlila Maidan will start their procession at about 4 pm, from Ram Mandir, Ramchandra Dehlvi Marg to Ramlila ground via Dariba Kalan, Gurdwara Sishganj, Chandni Chowk Nai Sarak, Chawari Bazar, Hauz Qazi Chok, Ajmeri Gate, Asaf Ali Road. The procession will return in reverse order after 11pm.
‘The joint Durga puja procession of Kali Bari Mandir and Birla Mandir will take place from Kali Bari Mandir Mandir Marg to Kudasia Ghat, Yamuna river near ISBT,’ said a police official. The routes will include, Mandir Marg , Peshwa Road , ITO , Gole Market , GPO New Delhi, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, Delhi Gate, Ring Road and ISBT.
‘The combined Durga Puja procession from Chitranjan Park, R K Puram, GK II and from other colonies of South Delhi would assemble at Nehru Place and move Kalindi Kunj Noida Bridge via Chitranjan Park, Okhla flyover and Mathura Road,’ said a police official. ‘ There will be restrictions on movement of general traffic on Netaji Subhash Marg, New Darya Ganj Road, JLN Marg and Turkaman Gate’, he added.
‘The traffic of both carriageway of Outer Ring Road, i.e. Nehru Place to IIT and IIT to Nehru Place will remain heavy on Wednesday due to the ongoing festival,’ informed an official.
Delhi traffic officials have advised to avoid the Outer Ring Road from 4 pm onwards till midnight, and instead take other alternate route. ‘There will be no facilities to park cars on the route of the procession. Hence, the public is advised to avoid the roads leading to the pandals,’ said a police official.
‘The commuters going to New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway station, Nizamuddin railway station, ISBT and to the Airport , should leave in advance and have sufficient time for possible delay in routes,’ informs a traffic official. They also adviced the general public to use metro on this day, to prevent chaos and traffic snarls on the roads of New Delhi.
