Tribute to 'sarod maestro'
Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra is organising a ceremony to present the 'Sumitra Charat Ram Award for Lifetime Achievement (2018)' to Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, the sarod maestro. The award will be given by Lalit Mansingh at 6:45 pm on November 17 at Kamani Auditorium.
The evening will start with a welcome address by Shobha Deepak Singh, Director, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra followed by the reminiscences by Kumudini Lakhia. Thereafter, the award will be presented to Ustad Amjad Ali Khan after which the awardee and Lalit Mansingh will address the audience. To make the evening more special, a sarod performance by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is also lined up with which the evening will come to an end.
Initiated by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra the award aspires to augment young talent and for the veterans, creates a benchmark that custodians of Indian cultural forms will value, carrying forward global legacies that have taken birth in India.
The prestigious award f was first instituted in 2010 and was presented to Pandit Birju Maharaj, the doyen of Kathak Dance on February 21, 2011. In the subsequent years, the award has been presented to some eminent people like Kishori Amonkar (Hindustani Vocal Music), Mayadhar Raut (Odissi Dance), Pandit Jasraj (Hindustani Vocal Music), Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (Hindustani Instrumental Music, Flute), among others.
