The Destination: A journey through art
Pablo Picasso once said that painting is just another way of keeping a diary. The upcoming painting exhibition at the India Habitat Centre is artist Deepali Jain's attempt to keep one such diary that she has created over a period of 3 years.
Titled 'The Destination', the exhibition will be inaugurated on May 26 and will go on until May 29, 10 am – 7:30 pm.
She loves to travel and observe different arts and architecture from around the globe and translate those onto her canvases. Her works are a translation of the energy of her environment onto canvas. She paints mostly in acrylic paints, in a spontaneous way. Her paintings will take you to a journey around the whole world, especially the small lanes in old towns. The old streets, as she calls it, are the true essence of any city.
When you see her work, it seems, as if she is having a dialogue with the landscape around, and soaking in all the beauty on canvas through her expressions. The palette which she uses keeps changing since it reflects on her mood and her state of mind for that period of time. The paintings she creates are an amalgamation of her inner world and her outer world. Among all the paintings she has made, art inspired by Europe and Jodhpur are her favourites.
Since she learned Chinese painting for a good 10 years during her stay in Hong Kong, one can clearly see glimpses of Chinese painting in her works – both the boldness in strokes and the subtlety or calmness at the same time. The free hand style of Chinese painting is a more spontaneous style, where the subject is simplified making the work look more soothing to the eyes and mind.
She believes that artworks should be easily understood, straightforward, and nothing complex since the artists are meant to simplify things and not complicate them. That's is the reason she admires works of impressionist artists like Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Ram Kumar, and MF Husain. You can see the same simplicity in her works, and she removes all the extras and capture its real essence.
