SBI's pledge for greener future

State Bank of India flagged off the second edition of ‘SBI Green Marathon’ on February 24, 2019 at Eco Park, Kolkata

With the aim to promote sustainability and pledge for a greener future, country's largest bank – State Bank of India flagged off its second edition of annual flagship programme 'SBI Green Marathon'. The event was inaugurated by Partha Pratim Sengupta, DMD and CCO, SBI and Ranjan Kumar Mishra, CGM, Kolkata Circle, SBI at Eco Park, Kolkata on February 24, 2019.

Ashok Kumar Prasad IPS, IGP (II), CID, West Bengal also participated in the 21kms marathon in the event which witnessed nearly 7500 enthusiastic runners along with Swapna Barman, Indian Heptathlete, Gold Medalist, Asian Games 2018 and Debasish Biswas – first Bengali mountaineer to scale Mount Everest, who were also present at the event.

The morning observed participants from across the city running 5kms, 10kms, 21kms marathon. Senior officials of the bank also contributed to the 'Run for Green' theme and ran the marathon along with other participants. For the event, all the runners were given organic t-shirts to promote clean and green city and their bibs consisted of seeds for tree plantation post marathon.

SBI in the next two weeks is also rolling out its green marathon in Jaipur and Patna after thirteenth marathon events got concluded in major cities like New Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Guwahati, Bhopal, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Kolkata in the last five months.

While, SBI General Insurance is the health partner for SBI Green Marathon, SBI Life, SBI Mutual Funds and SBI Card are also significantly contributing to this zero waste event.
