Samadristhi: An intertwining performance

Samadristhi – a tribute to ML Vasanthakumari in honour of her 90th birthday this year, by Bharatnatyam exponent Rama Vaidyanathan and Carnatic vocalist Sudha Raghunathan through a cultural evening on November 25, at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre.

"Samadrishti, an intertwining of the legendary schools of music and dance, the performance will explore the 'same gaze' that the performers will interpret through their different disciplines," said Sudha Raghunthan, a Carnatic vocalist and composer from India. She was conferred the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1994, Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhusan (2015) by the Government of India.

Rama Vaidyanathan is one of the fore most Bharatanatyam dancers of her generation. She trained intensively under the legendary dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy and the celebrated Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan.

In a performance career spanning more than 30 years, Rama has developed her own individual style without forsaking the core principles of her dance form.

'Samadrishti', which means looking together and looking at each other with a sense of respect and equanimity – is a collaboration between the Chennai based Carnatic singer Sudha Ragunathan and Delhi based Bharatnatyam dancer Rama Vaidyanathan. Sudha and Rama will revisit together, some of the compositions popularised by MLV Amma in her concerts as well as in Tamil Cinema.
